Spencer Pitfield, Parliamentary Candidate for Penistone and Stocksbridge, is calling for an accident blackspot near Crow Edge to get an urgent upgrade in warning signage. The same wall on Hog Close lane, Victoria, has been hit by cars five times in the last six months.

Spencer said: “I am extremely concerned about this very dangerous accident blackspot. In the last six months five accidents have occurred at the same place, and it really is a miracle that someone has not been seriously injured. I have visited the location and it is clear to me that the signage is insufficient for a tight bend like this, especially when you take into consideration the very poor weather conditions which often occur due to its high location”.

David Barker, the house owner who has had to endure these regular collisions said: “My property is located at a very sharp bend in the road. It is a frequent occurrence that drivers see the corner far too late, often going far too fast. As a result they just drive headlong into our dry-stone wall. We have had some simply terrible accidents and urgently need a barrier or a curb stone at the very least as there is nothing between the road and wall”.
Mr. Barker continued: “I really do fear that someone will be killed. I have asked the authorities for much better signage but nothing has been forthcoming. I am therefore grateful to Spencer and Cllr. Millner for taking this matter so seriously”.

Cllr. Andrew Millner, Penistone West member, added: “This is a real problem and the signage is just not adequate. I have made direct contact with the Highways Authorities, and I will press urgently for improvements at this location”.
